A feast for the eyes!

Pane e Vino restaurant has been transformed into an art gallery to feature work by students at a local school
Diners at Pane e Vino are used to feasting their eyes on original works of art – the restaurant’s resident artist, Sara Floris, already exhibits there.
So when Pocklington School asked if their talented fifth and sixth formers could share our lofty wall space, how could we say no!
The first ten pieces are now installed as part of a revolving exhibition, creating a striking gallery of styles, technique and subject matter – from architectural studies to portraiture and funky still life (spot the Dorito packet!).
Candido Cogoni, who runs the restaurant with his brother Salvatore, says: “When we were asked if we’d be happy to display some of the students’ artwork, we didn’t have to think very long about it. We have the walls and they have the talent!
“Customers have been intrigued and delighted by it – it’s quite a talking point. Together, the canvases make a very bold impression when you walk into the restaurant.”
Pocklington School’s Head of Art, Dan Cimmermann, was one of the drivers behind the project.
“Seeing our students’ work displayed in the local area is incredibly rewarding,” says Dan. “We are immensely grateful to Pane e Vino for offering us this wonderful opportunity. It’s not only a proud moment for the students but also for the entire school community, as we celebrate the talents and achievements of our young artists.”
It was a real pleasure for Pane, working with the school staff in creating this exhibition space in our 25th anniversary year.
“We’re hoping that in years to come a very famous artist will look back and tell everyone where their work was displayed for the very first time… a little restaurant in an East Yorkshire town,” says Candido. “That would make us very proud!”
